Members guide a Society by electing Directors, who meet throughout the year to make decisions on behalf of the Members and act as stewards of the Society's assets. A society may hold General Meetings to make special decisions during the course of the year. Members also have an opportunity to participate on committees to guide the evolution of Tazopia, and to manage specific events and projects. The Directors appoint committee Chairs, and the Chairs invite members to become involved. During the year, Members are invited to participate on Committees to develop strategy and plans and make recommendations to the Directors. Committees are also charged with implementing projects under a Director. There is an obligation to have an Annual General Meeting (AGM) of all Members once per year. The purpose of the AGM is to review financial health, to vote on Directors and to pass any special motions that, by law or Society bylaw, require a vote by the general membership. The relationship between Directors and Members works two ways. The Directors approve those who apply for membership and the members elect the Directors. According to the Society Act of BC, the Directors determine who may become a Member of the Society. A first wave of Members is now in place, based on approval by the Inaugural Directors before the First Annual General Meeting. An application form will be posted online soon for those who qualified, but did not become Members before the current Board was elected. These are the bylaws for Membership in Tazopia: Special General Meeting Minutes 2006.12.10
If you qualify and would like to apply, download the application form (pdf). |
